Most window shades operate with only the bottom bar moving up and down. This is perfectly fine for many window situations, but sometimes there is a need for more precise light control, and daytime privacy.
What is the Top Down-Bottom Up option?
TDBU gives you 2 ways to control your shade. Lower the top bar for a sky view with the bottom part of the shade closed to provide privacy. Or – raise the the bottom bar for a full view to the outside. The shade fabric can stack at the top, the bottom or anywhere in between.
What type of shades can be Top Down-Bottom Up?
There are only 3 shade types that can be made with the Top Down-Bottom Up: Honeycomb, Roman Shades and Woven Wood-Natural Shades. Rolling style shades & Horizontal- vane blinds cannot be made with TDBU.
Top Down-Bottom Up works great for:
-Bathrooms – to allow light & a sky view in the top part of the shade but keep your privacy below.
-Street facing windows or near busy sidewalks – helps with daytime privacy.
-Room Darkening Fabrics – to allow for more range of light control.
-Windows over 30” tall so that there is enough height to open the top part of the shade.
-When your outside view isn’t great, but you still want to let some natural light in & a partial view to the outside.
-Hard to reach windows when you don’t want motorized. Set the shade to let the optimal amount of light in at the top and provide privacy with the bottom part of the shade.
